Hello everybody,
A week ago Peeing-Outdoors made a post titled "Members banned for copyright infringements" containing a list of people banned from their shop, with some of them being our customers. We would like to take a moment to comment on that.
First of all, the very title is ironic. PO clips are voyeur footage, obtained without consent of the "models". There is no copyright to infringe upon, because there's no way to lay claim to this videos without admitting to a crime in the process. For PO, there are no traditional costs associated with making this videos, like models' fees, renting a studio, buying clothes or similar. Heck, these videos are oftentimes taken by collaborators and then sold under PO brand with little effort needed from PO itself. So we'd like to make it clear that whatever "piracy policy" PO has in place is really aimed at simply maintaining their monopoly over selling content they've got no more rights to than anyone else. As explained, they have no legal avenue of enforcing it, so the only thing they can do is to go after individual members.
Secondly, we've been aware of this developments for a long time and we informed you of it last year. We have since increased our bounties for PO considerably in order to account for the potential risks of losing PO account for the customer choosing to upload to us. This means everyone affected has already been compensated through an increased amount of tokens they have received at the time.
Finally, we'd like to reflect on the more general trend of content sources (calling them "producers" or "creators" in case of something like PO doesn't feel appropriate) taking drastic measures to prevent the content present at their sites from being uploaded elsewhere. There is no way to combat piracy that would not harm your legitimate customers in the process. Restricting access to your site or purchasing from certain countries only leads to the reality where legitimate customers are unable to purchase. Rigorously vetting your customers only leads to situation where you have less members and most of them take their custom elsewhere. Does PO benefit from banning customers who allegedly upload "their" clips to PissRIP? Of course not. But you know who benefits? PissRIP does. Every person they ban is a person that will only get the stuff from us going forward.
So if you're one of those people who recently got banned - don't worry, we are committed to procuring PO content going forward, as always. If you're a current PO customer and are hesitating to fulfill our bounty and earn a lot of tokens - don't worry, even if you get your account banned, there will certainly be no lack of people to "pick up the torch".
